The route, which they named Sincronia, spans 900 m, featuring mixed climbing up to M4, ice up to WI4, and slopes reaching 60°. This ascent represents the second recorded climb of Cerro Steffen and the first ever on its West Face.

The project was the result of a year-long planning process. With very limited photographic and historical references—aside from a first-ascent report from 1965—the team meticulously studied the peak and coordinated logistics across three countries. The approach involved crossing Lake O’Higgins and careful timing to take advantage of a suitable weather window.
The expedition was carried out self-sufficiently, with the climbers relying on traditional mountaineering techniques, technical gear, and route-finding skills in a largely unexplored terrain. Their efforts were supported by grants from Grit & Rock, the NOLS Rothberg-Birdwhistell Exploration Fund, and contributions from Argentina’s guiding community.
Sincronia is a significant addition to Patagonian climbing: it demonstrates creativity, technical skill, and perseverance in a challenging alpine environment. The ascent highlights how modern alpinists combine careful preparation, international collaboration, and bold execution to open new lines on remote peaks.
